Chapter 12, Hot Air
Windmill
Wind on its sails turns it, and it drives the gears it meshes with.
How it works
- Wind blowing across its sails turns it, and it drives whatever gear it meshes with.
- Wind on the half of the sails above the axle turns it one way, and below the axle the other way. Wind aimed straight at the axle holds it still.
- A loaded windmill turns more slowly. A heavy train can stall it.
- Fans, bellows gusts and rocket exhaust all spin it.
Tips
- Aim the fan at one half of the sails, not at the middle.
- Leave space round the axle, because the sails sweep a wide circle.
Where you'll meet it
You first meet it in level 112, Ill Wind, in chapter 12, Hot Air.
