Ice Cube

A slippery block of ice that slides almost freely. Heat melts it away.

How it works

  • It is a slippery block that slides on almost anything.
  • Heat melts it. It shrinks steadily as it melts, then vanishes with a puff. Out of the heat it stops melting, and it carries on when heated again.
  • Two heat sources melt it faster than one.
  • A rope tied to it keeps its knot on the cube as it shrinks, and lets go when it melts.

Tips

  • A melting cube is a timer: anything resting on it sinks and drops a few seconds after the heat starts.
  • Heat passes through walls and shelves, so a heat source can reach it from behind.
